"Sweeter Than Roses: A Program of Songs from the British Isles" is sponsored by the Torrey Honors Institute and hosted by the Conservatory of Music as part of Biola's "Year of the Arts."
Known for her versatility, Jane Thorngren's performance experience ranges from Early Music to new works by contemporary composers. She is equally at home on opera, operetta and concert stages around the world. Since her debut at the Metropolitan Opera, she has appeared with national opera companies around the US, received wide critical acclaim in two PBS Live from Lincoln Center opera telecasts, and performed with Canadian and European opera companies. In addition to concerts at Carnegie Hall and other major venues, she has toured in South America, Asia and Europe. With the release of her new CD, "This and My Heart," she returns to one of her first loves, art song literature.
Dr. Duane Funderburk is well know both for solo performances and collaborative piano. He holds a Master of Music degree in piano performance from Boston University, and a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in collaborative piano from University of Southern California. He has given recitals around the US as well as in Europe, and performs extensively with violinist Alex Russell in duo recitals. As an arranger and conductor, he has produced numerous albums for instrumental and vocal artists, including Jane Thorngren, of the New York City Opera and baritone Simon Estes, of the Metropolitan Opera Company.
