Under The Shadow
"A Collage: Five Sacred Spaces Made, Lost, Found"
Commissioned for the Year of the Arts and composed by Robert Denham, Associate Professor of Music at Biola University, this original oratorio explores how sin has eroded the world's sacred spaces which are then restored with a proclamation of hope and redemption. Performed by the Biola Chorale; Pacific Symphony Chamber Orchestra, conducted Cart St. Clair; and soloists Tyler Thompson, tenor, and Susan Ali, mezzo-soprano. Moving images are created by the Department of Cinema & Media Studies.
Under the Shadow explores the "problem" of sacred space, explained as follows:
All spaces were at first created by God, and by nature of His very presence, were made to be sacred. However, it is currently apparent to us that spaces traditionally held to be sacred (cathedrals, home, or even nature itself) do not always contain that which is pure and good. We rejoice that this problem is not without resolution; the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ will see all things made new. Hallelujah that every bit of sin, evil, and corruptin will be eliminated from every heart and place. The dreadful curse of Genesis will be no more; all creation will be restored.
